Phil Jackson was on the Dan Patrick show today before he left to the Lakers practice facility for media day. Dan Patrick asked Jackson questions regarding media day, Kobe Bryant, and the current status of the Lakers team.
Phil sounded very positive about the team that is going to Hawaii. He believes that this is a very talented team, and the key to it staying that way and being powerful in the season is for them to stay healthy.

Laker’s general manager Mitch Kupchak was on Los Angeles am570 radio today.
The main topics discussed were if that management felt the need to please Kobe Bryant, due the comments made this summer about him being unhappy with the current Laker team, and the recent media buzz saying that he may not report to training camp. Mitch Kupchak replied that he doesn’t feel that Kobe will not report to training camp, and every player under contract will be in Hawaii this summer. Also he emphasized that the whole organizations goal is to build the team around Kobe Bryant.
Other topics discussed in the interview were his thoughts on Chris Mihm and Derek Fisher returning this season, the western conference competition, and about Phil Jackson renewing his coaching contract.

Lakers head coach Phil Jackson will be inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame this weekend.
He was on the Los Angeles am570 sport radio show, loose cannons this afternoon. Some of the key topics discussed in the interview were whether he has involvement in the off season decisions that the Lakers make this summer. He stated that he did and went on to talk about the resignings of key players like Chris Mihm, Derek Fisher and Luke Walton.
Phil emphasized that Mihms rehab was a lengthy process, and he has worked really hard to get back to where he should be. When talking about Derek Fisher, he said that he was one of his favorite players. And Luke Walton is an example of team basketball, and has taken him as a son.
When asked if Lamar Odom’s play was a disappointment since he’s been a Laker, Phil said that he has told Lamar on many occasions that he loves having him on the team. He believes that he is a very compassionate teammate and respects everybody. The one thing that made a lot of sense was when he said that often people expectations of Lamar’s game play is a total misrepresentation of what it really is. Phil really believed that last season could have been Lamar’s best performing season, but was halted to reaching that due to multiple injuries.
Phil said he never thought he would make a good head coach, and actually took the job as an assistant by default. But took the liberty to put himself in situations where he could learn the discipline of being a head coach, like coaching basketball in Puerto Rico.
The question of Andrew Bynum came later on in the interview. Matt “Money” Smith asked, “what do you think of Andrew Bynum?”
Phil replied, “I think he is a great talent……but he is still a kid.” He went on to say that he is under a lot of pressure to produce highly this season, especially since being mentioned by the media in trade talks for seasoned veterans and all star players like Jermaine Oneal. Phil believes he has the potential to be an all star caliber player, but that is yet to be seen.

Laker owner Jerry Buss’s daughter Jeannie Buss who is the VP of Business Operations for the Lakers as well, was on the local Los Angeles radio show “Loose Cannons” talking about the current Laker’s summer situation.
She talks about Kobe’s comments this summer about Jerry Buss and Laker management not doing anything to make the Laker’s a winning NBA team. She talks about how Kobe wants to be a winner and so does Phil, when asked if the Laker’s were a divided organization between Jeannie, Phil and Kobe where the other side is Jerry Buss, Mitch Kupchak and Laker management.
Jeannie says that Phil’s mindset during last season was that he was dreading and hurting a lot of it due to hip surgery before last season. Phil is happy to have Derek Fisher and Chris Mihm back on the roster this season. She went on to comment that she knew that Phil knew where Kobe was coming from during the media uproar during Kobe’s comments to the media this summer.
She talks about how Phil and her had an hour long conversation about basketball, where Phil shared a lot of his strategies for the upcoming season.
A lot of the talk was about her relationship with Phil, and how that dynamic works in the team and management chemistry. Nothing too much that helps us judge what’s gonna happen.

Local Los Angeles sportscaster and frequent am570 guest Jim Hill was on the Loose Cannons radio show today. He was in Las Vegas during the Team USA camp this past weekend and got a quick conversation with Kobe Bryant.
He gave some key insights on his discussion with Kobe Bryant and his current situation with the Los Angeles Lakers. He gave the idea that Kobe was content with where he was at, and he has found refuge with the current team USA ‘all-stars’ and is solely focused on getting in shape and representing the USA in the FIBA tournament and then moving on and playing the regular NBA season.
Jim Hill also commented on how there were so many negative articles and topics on Kobe, and the reason being is that so many journalist just can’t get an interview with him — therefore they go bashing him like our good friend aka “the douche” TJ Simers.
Jim Hill will have a television interview tonight on KCAL 9 @ 10:45 p.m.
Here is the podcast audio, enjoy:
Jim Hill segment is at the end of the podcast…
