For a team that was just eliminated from playoff contention in their last loss against Portland two days earlier, the New Orleans Hornets certainly didn’t lack fervor Monday night against the Los Angeles Lakers. As the Hornets exuded in fervor, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant expressed his emotions on the court in frustration and fury. Bryant said he wasn’t disappointed following the Lakers’ 108-100 loss to the Hornets, but Bryant’s postgame temperament sure wasn’t too convincing considering his excessive anger he displayed throughout the game. The Hornets’ plan was to keep Bryant out of a rhythm early. New Orleans did that by limiting Bryant to 10 points in the first half. As Bryant eventually found his rhythm in the second half scoring a game-high 31 points on 10 of 18 shooting, the Hornets managed to pile up a lofty lead in the third quarter that never seemed to be threatened. Even though Bryant scored five points in the first 1:01 of the fourth quarter, the Lakers guard couldn’t put the team on his back for one of those patented Bryant comeback moments. And the frustration with the officiating, lack of team consistency or both boiled over on several occasions for everyone in the New Orleans Arena to see.
